History.

Established in 1932 and playing at Victory Park, in Patterson Road Bentleigh, the West Bentleigh Cricket Club (WBCC) is one of the oldest and most successful cricket clubs in the South East Melbourne area.

For 87 years WBCC has provided an open and caring environment for children and adults to enjoy the wonderful game of cricket.  The club experienced it's most successful period in the 80's, winning 4 Division 1 premierships. The club is chasing its 7th Langmuir Premiership which we hope is just around the corner!

WBCC promotes diversity, inclusion and participation, on and off the field, allowing people from all walks of life to gather and enjoy the company of others in the ‘true spirit of cricket’.

Current Position.

In a changing landscape of community cricket, West Bentleigh Cricket Club is thriving. Our games are some of the highest attended in the association by social members, friends family and the local community, making game day full of energy and excitement.

Off the field, our social functions are always a highlight, Past Players Lunch, Day at the Dogs, Junior Bulldog of the Month, $1000 draw, Junior Presentation, Doug Quick Senior Presentation. With a large number of social members, these events are always well attended. We also host a Pink Stumps Day with our Club raising funds for the McGrath Foundation. We encourage all of our sponsors to attend these events.

Junior Development is our main focus at WBCC . Ensuring our club continues to grow through junior participation is something I am passionate about. Filling the park with ‘baby blue’ polos of juniors being active, making new friends and enjoying their cricket is something we must continue to build through volunteers, hard work and most importantly sponsorship.

We have appointed a Junior Coordinator and will have a number of senior players, including our 1stX1, attending training sessions. We see junior participation and development as a key to our club and community.

To facilitate junior cricket is one thing, we want to go to the next level and add vital resources to player development and quality coaching. When the kids see growth in their performance and begin to reach their potential, they will most likely continue in the sport, and that is our aim. We are confident of recruiting a large number of new junior players and look forward to an enjoyable season in 2019/2020.

We are very lucky to have a great council that assists us in providing the Victory Park facility in great condition for the local community. Our T20 matches on Tuesday nights in summer are a great family event. The local community spectates some great cricket and there is nothing better than a hot summers evening at West!

Our players are very aware of the clubs mission statement and adhere to these club values. Working closely with Cricket Victoria, we are very close to fielding a junior girls team. This will be a landmark event in the clubs  87 year history, our desire to provide a positive and enjoyable cricket experience for everyone is something we are are passionate about.

West Bentleigh Cricket Club's overall goal is to provide the opportunity for all ages and ability to play cricket in an inclusive environment.

Everyone is welcome at West Bentleigh Cricket Club.

Message from the President.

I am 35 years old and currently play in the 1stX1 at WBCC. I started playing cricket at WBCC when I was 8! Having lived in the area all of my life, I have loved watching the area grow and the popularity of raising a family here. Victory Park is situated in the middle of Bentleigh, it is a fantastic community space and is always so busy!

Last season WBCC fielded four senior teams, with our 1stX1 Longmuir Shield team playing in one Grand Final and three Preliminary Finals over the past five seasons. Our Juniors fielded a number of teams ages 9-16 and we hosted Woolworths Cricket Blast for ages 5-8. Our past juniors have provided the club with over 70% of it’s playing list in current years.

Our T20 competition played on Tuesday nights is a fun format with the ability to bring in some marquee players. Last season we had Bernie Vince playing and through social media advertising these can be big nights for our club with big crowds.

Having an 87 year history, WBCC have created some rivalry games. Playing for an annual shield with two of the seven clubs in the first division, these games are deemed to be a ‘mini final’ between the two clubs and again attract large crowds.

In 2018 the Victorian government and City of Glen Eira announced a grant of $420,000 to renovate the Victory Park clubrooms to create a more female friendly environment. This will bring us much closer to achieving our objectives of a women’s and girls’ teams in the near future. Plans have now been finalised and works are set to begin in November 2019. This is a very exciting time for all of our current members and we are confident this will attract new members in the future.
